D.C Medical Examiner Refuses to Perform Autopsy on Late-Term, Aborted Babies Retrieved by Pro-Life Activists

A week after five murdered pre-born babies were discovered in D.C., the medical examiner and the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) still refuse to conduct an autopsy or file charges against the abortionist responsible.

Last Wednesday, March 30, the MPD removed the five babies from the home of Lauren Handy, a pro-life activist and member of the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU). Handy and Terrisa Bukovinac, the founder and director of PAAU claim to have retrieved the babies’ bodies from a medical waste truck driver outside of the Washington Surgi-Clinic.

In a press conference Tuesday, Bukovinac said “a feticide is generally used during abortion procedures after 20 weeks’ gestation to cause an unborn baby to have a heart attack which helps prevent a live birth and the excruciating pain of total dismemberment.”

She then added that in 2013, Live Action gained undercover footage of Cesare Santangelo, the only abortionist at Washington Surgi-Clinic, claiming that he does not use a feticide injection while performing late-term abortions.

Bukovinac continued, “because of this admission, and the advanced gestational ages of these babies and their intact condition, the likelihood that some were born alive is undeniable. Additionally, the injuries sustained by Harriot strongly imply she was the victim of a partial birth abortion.”

Live Action News reported that while late-term abortion is legal in D.C., federal laws such as the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 and the Born Alive Infants Protection Act could have been violated during these abortions.

In light of all of this, NBC Washington reported that Ashan Benedict, the MPD assistant chief of police, assured reporters that he believed all of the babies appeared to have been aborted in compliance with D.C. law. Additionally, the medical examiner’s office has said they do not plan to perform an autopsy and declined to comment on the case.

Should the abortionist be jailed?

In contradiction with D.C. officials, Live Action News reported that Dr. Robin Pierrucci, a neonatal specialist said, “I can say with confidence that these babies died at an age when they were viable, premature people.”

Even though D.C. may not uphold the law and protect innocent life, PAAU is not giving up.

“We are demanding that the D.C. police conduct an investigation of the deaths of these babies, including thorough autopsies,” Bukovinac said. “We demand that the U.S. Department of Justice prosecute Santangelo for violations of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act and the Partial Birth Abortion Act, and we’re demanding it now.”
