President Trump is among those warning that the nation is on the verge of a massive economic calamity.
“With what is happening to our economy, and with the proposals being made on the LARGEST AND DUMBEST TAX INCREASE IN THE HISTORY OF THE USA, TIMES FIVE, JOE BIDEN WILL GO DOWN AS THE HERBERT HOOVER OF THE MODRRN [sic] AGE,” Trump exclaimed on Truth Social. “WE WILL HAVE A GREAT DEPRESSION FAR BIGGER AND MORE POWERFUL THAN THAT OF 1929. AS PROOF, THE BANKS ARE ALREADY STARTING TO COLLAPSE!!!”
The former president’s warning became prophetic on Sunday afternoon.

State regulators closed New York-based Signature Bank just two days after California authorities shuttered Silicon Valley Bank in a collapse that roiled global markets and stranded billions of dollars of deposits.
The U.S. Treasury Department and other bank regulators said in a joint statement on Sunday that all depositors of Signature Bank will be made whole, and “no losses will be borne by the taxpayer.” The Signature failure is the third-largest in U.S. history.
There were also reports over the weekend that customers made runs on First Republic Bank branches across California.
