DEVELOPING STORY: A 19-year-old man who is transitioning to become a woman was arrested after he admitted to Colorado Springs police that he wanted to attack several schools and churches in the area.
Television station KOAA reports “19-year-old William Whitworth who identifies as ‘Lilly’ has been charged with felony criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree and misdemeanor interference with staff, faculty, or students of educational institutions, menacing, and criminal mischief.”
According to the district attorney’s office, Whitworth admitted that he planned to commit great atrocities across Colorado Springs.
“While waiting for the fire department to show up Lilly was asked how much she had been planning the school shooting and Lilly stated she’s about a third of the way from doing it,” the arrest papers add. “Lilly verified that Timberview Middle school was one of the ‘main targets’ currently and other targets were churches. Lilly was asked what kind of planning she had done, and she state layout of the school, active firearm planning and starting a manifesto.”
Eric Ross, a spokesperson for the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, told The Gazette that Whitworth is in the process of transitioning to female.
The suspect is currently being held in the Elbert County Jail.
Deputies obtained a search warrant of the home and found “The Communist Manifesto” by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels and more books with notes. Written inside one book had written inside, “Ways I want to die,” with a list stating murder, burning alive, freezing, and drowning.
