Moving day on Capitol Hill has caused a bit of an unpatriotic controversy.
Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) says he rescued an American flag that had been placed in a trash can. And he’s got the photographic evidence to back up his claim.

“This is a WTF moment in the House of Representatives,” Mast said during a Twitter video.
Mast, who lost both legs while serving in the U.S. Army, filmed video showing an American flag and a POW-MIA flag stuffed into a garbage can labeled for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s congressional office.
“In the garbage can,” he said. “In the trash.”

The Republican congressman offered to provide the Democrat congresswoman a lesson on flag etiquette.
“It’s one of the first things we’re taught in basic training,” he said. “What the hell is wrong with these people?”
Lee responded by accusing Mast of misleading the public and mistreating her.
“While I respect your military service and sacrifice to our nation, you do not have a pass to mislead the public,” she responded on Twitter. “As a re-elected member of congress, you know that office moves are solely handled by the Architect of the Capitol (AOC). You know I had nothing to do with this.”
Yet the video clearly shows Old Glory in a bin marked as “trash.”
“If the only information you had at the time was the view of a flag in a bin labeled ‘trash’, this was a mistake by the house movers that should have been kindly pointed out to them to be corrected,” the congresswoman wrote.
