Democrat lawmaker Tricia Cotham is now a Republican.
Cotham is a long-time state representative in North Carolina. She was a reliable Democrat vote in the House from 2007 – 2017.
After taking a break from politics, she ran again for office in November on a platform of gay rights and abortion rights.
Once she took office, Cotham noticed that the Democrat Party she previously served was not the same party. And now, she has given North Carolina Republicans a veto-proof majority in the House.

“The modern day Democratic Party has become unrecognizable to me… If you don’t do exactly what the Democrats want you to do, they will try to bully you,” she said. “They will try to cast you aside.”
She told Fox News that anyone who refuses to tow the party line is bullied and set aside.
“I caught a lot of flack over the fact that on my car and various things I display the American flag – that I talk a lot about my belief and faith and I’ve used Jesus several times when I’ve led our chamber in House prayer,” she said.
North Carolina Democrats also took issue with her wardrobe.
“I’ve been told you can never trust a Democrat who wears camo,” she told Fox.
In 2012 I was at the DNC meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina. That was the year the Democrats booed God and voted to remove the Almighty from the party platform.
A few minutes after that happened a severe thunderstorm hit Charlotte.
Coincidence? I think not.
