The NAACP is warning people of color to avoid Florida.
They say the Sunshine state is openly hostile towards African Americans, people of color and gay people.

“Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals,” reads a formal advisory on the NAACP’s website. “Before traveling to Florida, please understand that the state of Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of, and the challenges faced by African Americans and other communities of color.”
Now, that’s pretty ironic seeing how the state has several minority lawmakers including Senator Marco Rubio and Congressman Byron Donalds. And there are more gay bars than you can shake a drag queen at on South Beach in Miami.
One activist actually called Florida a terrorist state.
The great irony is that Leon Russell, the chairman of the NAACP, lives in Tampa.
Maybe President Biden could dispatch the National Guard to evacuate Mr. Russell and his family safely out of the state.
The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest homosexual activist group, also issued a travel warning.
“Those who visit must join us in their vocal opposition to these dangerous policies,” president Kelley Robinson said in a statement. “Those who pick another place to work, to go to school or to spend their vacation should make clear why they’re not heading to Florida.”
No doubt the NAACP’s warning has thrown a wrench in the vacation plans of many Americans.
But this commentary is all about finding solutions.
If Florida is too dangerous for black families, maybe they would be more comfortable summering in Detroit or Portland, Oregon or Memphis. Just be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen – and maybe a Kevlar vest.
