Marine Corps drill instructors used to be known for their ferocity and their salty language. Tough old birds.
But modern-day drill instructors have become a bit more sensitive. It’s a side effect of the Democrat Party’s woke military.
According to recent reports, Marine Corps drill instructors get triggered when recruits refer to them as “sir” or “ma’am.”
The Marine Corps Times reports that a recommendation has been made for recruits to stop using gendered terms like ma’am and sir when addressing drill instructors.
The recommendation came from an academic report commissioned by the Corps by the University of Pittsburgh.
“The Army, Navy, and Coast Guard effectively de-emphasize gender in an integrated environment,” the report says. “Instead of saying ‘ma’am’ or ‘sir,’ recruits in these Services refer to their drill instructors using their ranks or roles followed by their last names. Gendered identifiers prime recruits to think about or visually search for a drill instructor’s gender first, before their rank or role.”
They say it’s about teaching recruits to respect rank over gender.
“By teaching recruits to use gender-neutral identifiers for their drill instructors, Services underscore the importance of respecting authoritative figures regardless of gender,” the newspaper reported.
The Marine Corps has yet to make a decision on the recommendation.
