California Governor Gavin Newsom shut down a prominent Christian church’s preschool because children were not wearing face coverings.
Hundreds of angry parents rallied outside Foothills Christian Church near San Diego.
The preschool says they were just honoring the wishes of parents who did not want their children to be forced to wear a face covering.
School leaders were also accused of failing to encourage two-year-olds to wear face coverings.
The California Department of Social Services ordered the preschool closed and they also banned the preschool director from ever running a preschool.
The pastor of Foothills Christian Church says he believes his congregation was targeted. He says state workers came in and interviewed kids without parental permission. He said they were antagonistic and very aggressive.
The church is also facing thousands of dollars in fines.
