The Baby Jesus is no longer welcome in Bucksport, Maine.
The town took down a Nativity scene that had been displayed in downtown for decades.
Bob Mercer was one of a number of residents who demanded at a city council meeting that leaders “stand up for free speech.”
“The First Amendment [protects] freedom of religion, not freedom from religion,” he said.
“It’s time for [the] silent majority to speak. This is a slippery slope, when you start giving these people who didn’t even show up for the meeting [what they requested] simply because they don’t like it,” another longtime resident told Fox News.

The Bangor Daily News reports that the nativity was removed after a local atheist raised a stink.
Tom Waddell is the state chapter president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
He says there’s more to American culture than just Christianity and having a nativity scene on public property is exclusive. Notice how the atheists never pull this with the Muslim holidays. It’s just the Christian holidays.
Exclusively.
A similar issue arose in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. But town leaders reversed their decision to remove the Baby Jesus after our listeners bombarded City Hall with telephone calls and emails.

Maybe it’s time to do the same at Bucksport City Hall.
