A 12-year-old boy named Jaiden in Colorado Springs, Colorado scored a victory after his school kicked him out of the classroom for having a Gadsden flag patch on his backpack this week.

The Vanguard School Board of Directors held an “emergency meeting” after Jaiden refused to remove the patch when an administrator told him the “Don’t Tread on Me” flag was banned for “its origins with slavery and slave trade.”

Jaiden’s mother told the administrator that wasn’t true and that her son would continue to stand up for what he believes in — just like she taught him to.

He credited his mom and reading Connor Boyack’s Tuttle Twins books for why he knew more about his rights and American history than the average teacher. (Click here to see his favorite one!)

“Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear a backpack,” Boyack wrote on X.

Jaiden said his classmates started putting “Don’t Tread on Me” on their lockers.

The district reversed course after it went viral.

“From Vanguard’s founding we have proudly supported our Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the ordered liberty that all Americans have enjoyed for almost 250 years,” the board said. “The Vanguard School recognizes the historical significance of the Gadsden flag and its place in history. This incident is an occasion for us to reaffirm our deep commitment to a classical education in support of these American principles.”

Jaiden’s story went viral and he received support from across the country.

“Good job, Jaiden,” Dean Cain, the actor who played “Superman,” wrote on X. “It takes bravery to stand alone for what is right.”
