Vice President Kamala Harris received sharp criticism, after suggesting that aid for Hurricane Ian would be “based on equity” and hinting that “communities of color” would be the first to receive aid
“We have to address this in a way that is about giving resources based on equity, understanding that we fight for equality, but we also need to fight for equity,” Harris said Friday to great applause at the Democratic National Committee’s Women’s Leadership Forum.

“If we want people to be in an equal place, sometimes we need to take into account those disparities and do that work,” Harris added.
Best-selling author and national radio host Todd Starnes denounced the vice president’s comments — accusing her of discrimination and racism.
“The federal courts have already ruled that it’s against the law to use race and sex to allocate federal aid,” Starnes said. “The notion that the Biden Administration is going to intentionally push white people to the back of the bus is offensive and un-American.”
Christina Pushaw, the rapid response director for Gov. Ron DeSantis, issued a blistering rebuke of the vice president.
“This is false. @VP’s rhetoric is causing undue panic and must be clarified. FEMA Individual Assistance is already available to all Floridians impacted by Hurricane Ian, regardless of race or background,” she said on Twitter.
Starnes went on to say that it’s unfathomable to “imagine a hurricane survivor standing in line for food and water only to be told to go to the back of the line because of the color of his skin.”
