OPINION
Democrats across the fruited plain have been systematically curtailing our civil liberties. And I have been documenting this unconstitutional crackdown daily in my radio commentary. (And if you read my new book, “Culture Jihad: How to Stop the Left From Killing a Nation”, you were prepared for this)
Governors and mayors have tried to shut down gun sales in the Commonwealth of Virginia and in Los Angeles.
Governors and mayors have declared war on churches in Louisiana, Mississippi, Michigan, Kentucky and Illinois.
Worshipers were slapped with $500 fines in Greenville, Mississippi and a New Jersey police chief threatened to arrest anyone who showed up at a prayer vigil tonight in a hospital parking.
Kentucky’s governor ordered state police to gather license plate information from Easter Sunday worshipers and ordered all Christians who attended to quarantine for 14-days.
But perhaps the most egregious crackdown is happening in Michigan where Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is ruling her state with an iron fist.
“If you’re not buying food or medicine or other essential items, you should not be going to the store,” the governor told ABC 13 News.
“Farmers markets may also be barred from selling seedlings for fruits and vegetables,” the Michigan NPR affiliate reported.
“Currently there is a ban on all plant sales at the market. So, that is a big portion of our May market and so we might have to limit particular vendors at that time,” Fulton Street Market executive director Rori Jean Trench, told the radio station.
The petty tyrant Michigan leader @GovWhitmer mandates that citizens may not travel to their own second residences, may not buy garden seeds or a can of paint. Such govt overreach represents an affront against common sense and our principles of liberty 1/3https://t.co/R90kOA7xAt

The Michigan Farm Bureau told radio station WSJM that the governor should reconsider her decision and reopen nurseries.
“If they lose this opportunity to sell their products, it is the entire year’s worth of income that is lost for this industry,” spokesperson Audrey Sebolt told the radio station.
In a statement the Farm Bureau wrote, “It’s disappointing to hear that the governor’s new EO [executive order] does not allow the sale of flower and vegetable plants in a safe manner. It will be a total loss for this industry if they are not allowed to sell their plants over the next eight weeks.”
In Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser – also a Democrat – declared that fish markets and farmer’s markets are no longer essential businesses. Anyone who wants to operate a market must obtain a mandatory – government-issued waiver.
So let’s review: the Democrats want to take away our guns, our freedom to assemble and our religious liberty. And now they want to take away our ability to grow our own food?
Remember what former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger once said: “Whoever controls the food supply controls the people.”
