DEVELOPING STORY: President Biden mumbled, stumbled and shuffled his way through an embarrassing visit to the fire-devastated island of Maui.
The president mispronounced the names of Hawaii government leaders and called it an “unimaginable travedy.” Yes, “travedy.”
“That’s some hot ground,” the president joked as he got distracted by a dog.
Maui residents lined the road near the airport holding signs saying “he’s too late,” “he should’ve been here much earlier,” and “actions speak louder than words.”
Instead of conveying sympathy and compassion, the president made the terrible tragedy all about himself. He literally compared their suffering and hardship to a small fire that damaged the kitchen in his Delaware home.
According to a 2004 AP report, it was “a small fire…contained to the kitchen” that “was under control in 20 minutes.”
