Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) hit President Biden for his lack of access to the press in stark contrast to former President Trump.
Gaetz suggested a “transition” to Vice President Kamala Harris “has already begun” in an interview on Fox News.
“You have to wonder whether the transition to Harris has already begun,” the Florida conservative told “Sunday Morning Futures.”
President Biden on Monday seemed to forget Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s name at a White House event — calling the Pentagon chief “the guy who runs that outfit over there.”
“And I want to thank the sec — the, the, ah former general. I keep calling him general, but my, my — the guy who runs that outfit over there,” Biden said.
“I want to make sure we thank the secretary for all he’s done to try to implement what we just talked about. And for recommending these two women for promotion.”
“Joe Biden has had more nap time than questions from reporters,” Gaetz said.
“Joe Biden has had more attacks on Syria than he’s had press conferences,” he added. “So you have to ask to the progressive voters, ‘Is this really what you expected?'”
Biden is the first president in the last 100 years to not hold a press conference in his first 30-some days.
The Biden administration is even getting backlash from left-wing media.
The Washington Post’s Editorial Board wrote an op-ed titled “It’s past time for Biden to hold a news conference.” At the same time, Saturday Night Live hasn’t impersonated the Democratic president since last year.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Friday said a Biden news conference is expected to happen by the end of March.
