President Joe Biden told the mother of Tyre Nichols, who was brutally beaten to death by five police officers, that he could relate because he “lost his son in a war.”
“I lost my son in a war,” Biden said as part of a 10-minute call he made Friday afternoon.
“That did not happen,” national radio host Todd Starnes said, noting that Beau Biden died of a brain tumor in 2015 — not the war in Iraq or Afghanistan.

"He actually tattooed my name on his arm," his mom told Biden.
"That's what you call something special," Biden replied.

Biden doubled down on his comments to reporters afterward.
“I spoke with Tyre’s mother and expressed my condolences,” Biden said. “I told her I had some idea of what that loss is like and although it is impossible to believe now, a time will come when his memory brings a smile before a tear.”
