President Biden’s choice to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) was grilled by Republican Senators Wednesday.
David Chipman, Biden’s ATF pick who is a gun control advocate, told Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) he supports a ban on AR-15s.
Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) asked Chipman to define “assault weapon” but the nominee said he couldn’t define it in 30 seconds.
“If you won’t answer my question, how can I vote for you?” Kennedy asked Chipman.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) also asked Chipman to define an “assault weapon” and he quickly buckled.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) asked Chipman why he would extend the National Firearms Act to “assault weapons.”
