Rep. Andy Briggs (R-AZ), Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, told the Todd Starnes Radio Show Tuesday Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas needs to be impeached.
More than 60,000 Afghan refugees are reportedly entering the United States without being screened. According to Briggs, Mayorkas has only screened refugees if they are already in the system.
“It’s just one more example of why Secretary Mayorkas should be impeached,” Biggs told host Todd Starnes. “I mean, when you bring in 60,000 plus Afghan refugees, it’s over 100,000, by the way, and you’re distributing them throughout the country. You’re telling us that we didn’t have in-person interviews with trained professionals who can help screen these people.”
The Arizona congressman believes the lack of screening for Afghan refugees is putting the American people in danger. However, Briggs does not just discuss the risks of unscreened refugees but also mentions the problems at the Southern border.
In the last year, 458,000 illegal immigrants have entered the United States through the Southern border, according to the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus. Yet, these immigrants are not being tested for COVID and other diseases, nor are they heavily screened.
“A lot of these people that we’re apprehending, we are just releasing into the country,” Biggs continued. “They’re not getting COVID testing. They’re not testing for other communicable diseases. The background checks for them are minuscule, as bad as the Afghani refugee background checks.”
“They’re going everywhere in the country. So, you know, things are really porous on the border. You got caravans coming, led by militant leaders.”
Starnes pointed out that Kamila Harris, who Biden appointed to lead migration efforts at the Southern border, is entirely “incompetent.” Even CNN reported Sunday that the vice president’s performance has been full of “exasperation and dysfunction.”
“We have to get somebody different in there, and it starts at the very top with Joe Biden,” said the Arizona congressman when discussing Mayorkas, Harris, and Biden’s work at the border. “You need somebody who really cares about the sovereignty of the United States of America, and we don’t have that.”
LISTEN TO THE FULL INTERVIEW WITH REP ANDY BIGGS ON THE TODD STARNES RADIO SHOW:
Below is a rushed transcript of Congressman Andy Briggs’s interview on the Todd Starnes Radio Show Tuesday:
Starnes: [01:21:21] Let’s go to the Patriot mobile newsmaker line. Our good friend from the Great State of Arizona, Congressman Andy Biggs, joins us. Congressman, your reaction to that development today up on Capitol Hill?
Biggs: Well, I mean, it’s just one more example of why Secretary Mayorkas should be impeached. I mean, if the guy’s not going to resign, he needs to go. He is manifestly incompetent. I mean, when you bring in 60,000 plus Afghan refugees, it’s over 100,000, by the way, and you’re distributing them throughout the country. You’re telling us that, well, you know, we didn’t have in-person interviews with folks, with these people with trained professionals who can help screen these people. The only people that we have screened are if they’re in our system already. I mean, this is what I’ve been saying since they were coming in. I knew this was the case because Afghanistan didn’t have a database keeping track of these individuals that we could have access to. So, so here we sit, and Todd, the country is less safe because of Joe Biden, the entire Afghanistan debacle. But this is going to put it at greater risk and then throw the southern border on it. And you’ve really got some major problems because of Mayorkas.
Starnes: Well, look, I mean, we’re going to know where some of them are when they, you know, blow themselves up in horrible places. I mean, and that’s just the cold, hard reality of what we’re dealing with here because, again, they don’t know what came across the ocean to our country from Afghanistan. Just reprehensible. Real quick. Congressman, these reports are coming out CBP reporting one hundred and sixty-four thousand three hundred three illegals encountered crossing the border in October. That’s the highest total for October ever recorded by Homeland Security. I know you’re not surprised by these numbers.
Biggs: Not at all. Last year, about 70,000, a little over 70,000 last year in the same period, the entire year was 458,000 last year. Guess what, Todd? In about three months, the Biden administration has apprehended more, and they say, oh, we’ll see how many were apprehended. Now, these people are the surrenders, the gateways. People are realizing that getaways are between 75 and 100,000 at least every month. And a lot of these people that we’re apprehending, we are just releasing into the country. They’re not getting COVID testing. They’re not testing for other communicable diseases. The background checks for them are minuscule, as bad as the Afghani refugee background checks. They’re going everywhere in the country. So, you know, things are really porous on the border. You got caravans coming, led by militant leaders. We’re we continue, Todd, we have to say this. We have to get somebody different in there, and it starts at the very top of Joe Biden is somebody other than Biden. You need somebody who really cares about the sovereignty of the United States of America, and we don’t have that.
Starnes: No, we don’t. And look, I think, and in Kamala Harris, you have just flat-out incompetence, and it’s just fascinating to watch the back and forth between the White House and the vice president’s office. You know that the CNN report that came out Sunday night was really devastating for the vice president and shocking that there’s so much infighting that it’s spilling out into CNN now.
Biggs: Yeah, we knew that things were not rosy, right? Because we had seen Kamala Harris speak put her on obscure duty because she’s an embarrassment wherever she goes. I mean, the French, you know, the Pepe le Pew kind of fake French accent while she’s over there in France? I mean, she’s an embarrassment domestically and internationally. But then so is Joe Biden.
Starnes: Congressman Andy Biggs on the Patriot mobile newsmaker line. Congressman, you posted an item on your Twitter account going through how much a Thanksgiving meal is going to cost, or one item, in particular, caught my mind. And it was not the fact that a 16-pound turkey is up eighteen-point three percent. You’re telling me that deviled eggs, which are a mainstay of the Southern Thanksgiving table, are up eleven-point six percent. It’s going to cost you six dollars, 49 cents if you’re going to have deviled eggs on the table this year.
Biggs: Yeah, isn’t that astounding? I mean, it’s everything is up. This is going to be the most expensive Thanksgiving ever. And um, and the Biden administration can’t figure out why. They don’t understand inflation. They don’t understand supply chain issues. They don’t understand energy cost issues, supply-demand issues of energy. So not only are your eggs going to cost more, but your heating is going to cost more. You’re going to get to choose between whether you’re going to get the deviled eggs that are going to keep your House comfortable on Thanksgiving Day. That’s how bad this administration has become.
Starnes: Congressman, wear a sweater, eat the deviled eggs. That’s my recommendation.
Biggs: I will do that. And don’t forget the pickle plate, man. You have to have that.
Starnes: You got to have little midget gherkins. So.
Biggs: Exactly.
Starnes: Right. Grace, no grace. They’re actually called midget gherkins, not little pickles. They’re just midget gherkins. Sorry about that, Congressmember, by the way. Someone asked, why? Why didn’t you call him the Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus? There’s a reason for that because there was a passing off of the gavel today.
Biggs: Well, there was an election last night. My term was up. My term will be up, I should say, in January, so we’ll actually officially change, we’ll pass the gavel to Scott Perry of Pennsylvania. I’ll continue to serve until he takes over and is a great guy. I think America is going to love him. He’s going to do a super job as the leader of the House Freedom Caucus, no doubt about it.
Starnes: He’s a good man, and I got to brag on you. You’ve done a heck of a job for the country, Congressman, and you’ve really represented a conservative so well. And I know you’re going to continue to do that representing the great state of Arizona in the House. But man, we’re just so proud of the work you did on that Freedom Caucus.
Biggs: Thanks. Thanks, Todd. Thanks so much. And you know, it’s because I’ve got great friends and great, great, the Freedom Caucus members themselves are fantastic. They’re hard workers there. They just get after it. And then there are people like you that understand freedom. You keep doing the work that we need you to do.
Starnes: All right, you’re kind to say that got a big Thanksgiving thing planned back home.
Biggs: Well, I like to do a lot of the cooking. I’ll be doing a lot of the cooking and baking the pies and the turkey and the mashed potatoes and all that. It’s just going to be family getting together with some friends, and that’s the best way to do it. You know, I think Dr. Fauci would even approve. No, he wouldn’t. Who am I kidding?
Starnes: So, there you go. All right. Well, Congressman, I hope you and the Biggs family have a terrific Thanksgiving.
Biggs: Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Todd. And also all your listeners. Awesome. Great Americans.
Starnes: All right. Thank you, Congressman.
