The House of Representatives voted Friday to ban so-called “assault weapons.” Click here to join Todd’s private Facebook page for conservatives.
The legislation, authored by Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., would criminalize the knowing sale, manufacture, transfer, possession or importation of many types of semi-automatic weapons and large-capacity ammunition feeding devices.
“They’re coming for your guns,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) said. “They want to take all guns from all people.”
Five Democrats voted against the legislation. Two Republicans voted for the ban.
The two Republicans who voted to take your Second Amendment rights are Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Rep. Chris Jacobs (R-NY).
“They stripped you of your Second Amendment rights just before going on their month long August vacation,” the Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee wrote on social media. “Only in The Swamp.”
The House Freedom Caucus condemned Speaker Pelosi’s gun grab.
“Disarming law-abiding citizens is not the path toward a safer America,” they wrote in a statement. “Even as the Left’s extremist policies have flung open our borders to violence and drugs, enabled dangerous criminals to terrorize our streets, and handcuffed law enforcement from maintaining public safety, Democrats are pushing to outlaw the import, sale, manufacture, and transfer of some of the most popular firearms in America.”
The House chamber erupted in cheers as Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the vote.
“Our nation has watched in unspeakable horror as assault weapons have been used in massacre after massacre in communities across the country,” Pelosi said. “We know that an assault weapons ban can work because it has worked before.”
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) expressed grave concern over reports that the USDA and the Dept. of Education are arming agents.
“Democrats want to take guns away from law-abiding citizens, and arm the USDA and Dept. of Education with what they call ‘weapons of war.’ Who are they preparing to go to war with,” Massie wrote.
The House Freedom Caucus called the legislation a “relentless attack on the Second Amendment.”
“Democrats are targeting law-abiding citizens to undermine their ability to defend themselves and infringe upon their Second Amendment rights,” the caucus wrote on social media.
The legislation is not expected to pass the Senate.
