BREAKING: Pentagon Says 8,500 Troops Placed on ‘Heightened Preparedness to Deploy’

Around 8,500 U.S. troops have been placed on heightened alert to deploy as Russia poses a threat at Ukraine’s border, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said Monday.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has placed a range of units inside the United States with the issue to prepare to deploy at the direction of President Biden if NATO activates its rapid-response force.

Kirby said no final decision to deploy the troops had been made.
