Former President Trump filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against his former 2016 opponent Hillary Clinton and other Democrats for “an unthinkable plot” to rig the election by tying his campaign to Russia.

Trump accuses Clinton and the Democratic National Committee of “racketeering” and a “conspiracy to commit injurous falsehood,” among other claims.
“In the run-up to the 2016 Presidential election, Hillary Clinton and her cohorts orchestrated an unthinkable plot — one that shocks the conscience and is an affront to this nation’s democracy,” the lawsuit filed in South Florida says.
“Acting in concert, the defendants maliciously conspired to weave a false narrative that their Republican opponent, Donald J. Trump, was colluding with a hostile foreign sovereignty,” it says. “The actions taken in furtherance of their scheme — falsifying evidence, deceiving law enforcement, and exploiting access to highly-sensitive data sources — are so outrageous, subversive and incendiary that even the Watergate [scandal] pale in comparison.”
Trump in the suit says the conspiracy “was conceived, coordinated and carried out by top-level officials at the Clinton campaign and the DNC — including ‘the candidate’ herself.”
Trump is seeking compensatory and punitive damages more than a growing $24 million in defense costs, legal fees and related expenses.
The defendants in Trump’s lawsuit include Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer, who authored the infamous Steel dossier which was given to the FBI and mainstream media outlets in the runup to the 2016 presidential election. It was also the subject of a two-year-long investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller which never charged any Trump associates with a criminal conspiracy.
