The issue of media bias is one that gets a lot of attention from conservative commentators, but how deeply does the issue run, and just how much positive coverage do conservatives get from mainstream outlets?

Brent Bozell, founder of the Media Research Center, said over 90 percent of monthly media coverage of President Donald Trump is negative, and in the lower months it was still above 80 percent, including his first month of presidency, January 2017, when presidents are usually given a “free pass.”

“This was a news media that was united in a drive to prevent Donald Trump from gaining the presidency since the moment he won, Bozell said on the Todd Starnes Radio Show. “They believe all along he was illegitimate. Their goal has been to remove him from office.”

Bozell and Tim Graham co-authored the new book, “Unmasked: Big Media’s War Against Trump.”

Bozell and Graham lay out the evidence that the news media “doesn’t exist anymore” and doesn’t even pretend to be an objective source of information.

“They despise this man, they will do anything in their power to see him removed,” he told Starnes.

Bozell said that the level of vitriol and negativity aimed at the Trump administration was “unheard of,” and referenced numerous times celebrities have insulted the president, vice president, or their families and have paid no price for it in the media.

“People need to understand we really are in an existential war,” he said.

Starnes noted the importance of a news media as the “Fourth Estate,” the watchdog of the government, and Bozell responded by saying that democracy is impossible without it.

“How can a democracy itself exist when you have got a news media in the information age that is deliberately deliberately keeping the truth from them,” Bozell said. “Remember how in China for 25 years the Communist government kept the news from the Chinese that the American people had landed on the moon and we thought well that’s awful? Look what they’re doing now.”

Bozell said that the media is deliberately hiding the successes of President Trump as he runs for re-election, and are hoping that people don’t notice.

But a fix isn’t going to come easily, Bozell went on. “Some networks are forever broken,” he said.

“I just don’t know how to restore it. I just don’t know how they do it. I think they’ve destroyed themselves,” and that’s and that’s the thesis of this book.”
