BULLETIN: Mike Pence Files Paperwork to Run for President

Former Vice President Mike Pence officially entered the 2024 Republican presidential primary Monday, filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.

The ex-running mate of former President Donald Trump is set to make a formal announcement Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa. It happens to be Pence’s 64th birthday.

“Come this Wednesday, I’m announcing in Iowa,” Pence told a crowd at Sen. Joni Ernst’s Roast and Ride event that benefits veterans.

With Trump as the clear frontrunner and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis trailing by 30-some points nationwide, Pence supporters hope he can be the clear alternative.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum are also set to announce their candidacies this week.

Pence did not get a warm welcome on his announcement on Twitter.

“Mike Pence is the establishment’s pick for POTUS,” Joey Mannarino wrote in part. “We can’t let that be the case.”

“Me and Mike Pence have the same chance at being President in 2024,” Lavern Spicer said. “I’m not even running. So there’s that.”

Another user referred to Pence as “Judas” for his role leading up to Jan. 6, 2021.
