DEVELOPING STORY: House Republicans have reportedly selected Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise to be their pick for Speaker of the House. Scalise was selected by secret ballot, Newsmax reported exclusively.
Scalise, who was nearly killed in a domestic terrorist attack committed by a Bernie Sanders supporter, will face a full House vote later today.
The conference had reportedly been split between Scalise and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). Jordan had been the pick of former President Trump.
Republicans killed a proposal Wednesday to change the nominating process that was intended to avoid a messy floor fight and are now voting on the nomination. A candidate will be required to receive the votes of a majority of the conference to be the nominee.
