When Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot approached a line of Chicago officers who showed up at the University of Chicago Medical Center to support their fellow officers who were shot Saturday night, they turned away and gave her a cold shoulder.
Officer Ella French, 29 years old, was fatally shot during a traffic stop, while her partner is fighting for his life, according to NBC 5.
Alderman Raymond Lopez slammed Lightfoot, posting a photo showing the officers with their back toward the camera.
“They turned their back to the mayor just as she turned her back on the rank and file time and again,” he wrote on Facebook.
Chicago Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzaro told the Sun-Times, “Turning their backs on the mayor was an excellent example of how the hundreds of police officers felt waiting outside the hospital. … They have had enough and are no longer going to remain silent anymore.”
