Vice President Kamala Harris lost her composure when a Univision anchor pressed her on when she plans on visiting the southern border crisis.
During the interview, Ilia Calderon pushed Harris, who just returned from her first foreign trip to Guatemala since taking office, on why she hasn’t visited the US-Mexico border.
“I’ve said I’m going to go to the border. I–” Harris said.
“When are you going, Vice President?” Calderon interrupted.
Harris, visibly frustrated and waving her finger, snapped back: “I’m not finished.”
One social media user pointed out Calderon’s facial expression during the tense exchange, tweeting: “This reporter’s facial expression is everyone in America right now.”
“I’ve said I’m going to the border,” Harris continued, dodging the straightforward question to discuss the “root causes” of illegal immigration. “If we are going to deal with the problems at the border, we have to deal with the problems that cause people to go to the border.”
Calderon circled back, asking the VP if she had a date for her trip to the U.S.-Mexico border.
“I will keep you posted,” Harris responded with a laugh.
The Vice President had a similar response to NBC’s Lester Holt, who confronted her on why she herself had not yet visited the border.
“Do you have any plans to visit the border,” Holt asked.
“At some point, you know, we are going to the border… We are going to the border. We’ve been to the border.” Harris said.
The NBC anchor pushed back: “You haven’t’ been to the border.”
“And I haven’t been to Europe,” she joked. “I don’t understand the point you’re making.”
