Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is officially jumping into the 2024 presidential race, according to multiple reports.
The Florida governor is reportedly set to make the announcement Wednesday night in a discussion with Twitter CEO Elon Musk, who said it will be “non-scripted.”
National radio host Todd Starnes said DeSantis going to Twitter seems to be his way of thumbing his nose at former President Trump, the leading Republican contender, over his Truth Social platform.
The conversation on Twitter Spaces will be moderated by tech entrepreneur David Sacks, who is a Musk confidant and DeSantis supporter, NBC News reports.
The DeSantis campaign is set to release a launch video and the candidate will begin visiting early presidential primary states after Memorial Day.
Florida’s first lady, Casey DeSantis, responded to a Fox News story on the announcement.
“Big if true…” she tweeted.
Fox News reports DeSantis will give his “first national TV interview since the announcement” on the show “Fox News Tonight,” the show from which Tucker Carlson was ousted.
Several conservatives called on Trump, who has nicknamed him “Ron DeSanctimonious,” to get back on Twitter but he has repeatedly said he plans to remain on his social media site.
The “Todd Starnes Show” host asked “pro-DeSantis evangelicals” why they aren’t supporting Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) in a tweet.
