A member of the White House press corps is suing White House press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and others after more than 440 reporters had their passes revoked.
African journalist Simon Ateba filed the lawsuit Thursday after the Biden White House announced new rules in May allowing for the first time rescinding press badges.

“Defendants violated Mr. Ateba’s First Amendment rights by changing the criteria for hard pass credentials to intentionally prevent Mr. Ateba from obtaining hard pass access,” the lawsuit reads. “Defendants did so by adopting credentialing criteria specifically designed to exclude Mr. Ateba from eligibility. Such discrimination amounts to a content-based regulation and viewpoint discrimination against Mr. Ateba in violation of the First Amendment.”
It continues: “In the last five years since joining the White House press corps, Mr. Ateba has been treated with contempt by the current Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, and her staff, receiving only a handful of responses to questions and almost no opportunity to meaningfully communicate with the White House.”
Ateba, who works for Today News Africa, spoke to Newsmax on Monday about how the Biden administration has repeatedly refused to call on him related to African affairs.
“The White House is trying to silence me for doing my job and for asking the right questions,” he said.
Ateba also told Newsmax he is not going on Fox News because of his support for former host Tucker Carlson.
