Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., told Fox News that the Federal Bureau of Investigation seized his phone on Tuesday – less than 24 hours after the agency raided former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

Perry explained to the network that he was traveling with family when three FBI agents handed him a warrant and demanded his cellphone.
“They made no attempt to contact my lawyer, who would have made arrangements for them to have my phone if that was their wish,” he emphasized.
The Pennsylvania representative continued, saying he is “outraged, though not surprised” Attorney General Merrick Garland’s Justice Department would order the FBI to confiscate a Congress member’s phone.
“My phone contains info about my legislative and political activities and personal/private discussions with my wife, family, constituents, and friends,” Perry stated. “None of this is the government’s business.”
Perry reiterated his claim Garland was responsible for directing Monday’s raid, suggesting the top federal prosecutor was involved in the confiscation of his own phone as well.
“These kinds of banana republic tactics should concern every citizen — especially considering the decision before Congress this week to hire 87,000 new IRS [Internal Revenue Service] agents to further persecute law-abiding citizens,” the congressman noted, referencing a provision in Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act that doubles the IRS’ manpower.
The news comes as a shroud of mystery still surrounds the raid of Trump’s 62,500 square feet Palm Beach, Florida, mansion on Monday.
Several media outlets have reported that the raid was in search of classified documents relevant to the ongoing House investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Riot. However, no official statement by the FBI or Justice Department has been issued yet.
