Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) continues to fight the Biden administration over COVID policies.
“Today, the state of Florida has filed another lawsuit against the Biden administration,” said DeSantis Thursday at a press conference. “This lawsuit challenges the Biden administration’s order imposing a vaccine mandate on federal contractors.”
In September, Biden announced that federal workers and federal contractors must get COVID shots as a condition of work or — in the case of contractors — doing business with the federal government.
“With Florida, we’ve got to be one of the top states in terms of who would be most affected by this,” said DeSantis at a press conference. “We don’t want people to lose their jobs, and we obviously want to keep business going.”
The federal lawsuit filed in Tampa also named NASA administrator and former Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL).
Twila Brase, a registered nurse and president/co-founder of Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom, applauds DeSantis.
“The Biden administration thinks they can do whatever they want to,” Brase said, “and with the states, every governor should stand up and say, ‘No, you can’t. Not now. Not in the future.”
DeSantis said he plans to call a special session on Oct. 21 to have legislators combat COVID shot mandates enacted by businesses.
“At the end of the day, you shouldn’t be discriminated against based on your health decisions,” said DeSantis during a news conference covered by the Associated Press. “We want to provide protection for people, we want to make it clear that, in Florida, your right to earn a living is not contingent upon whatever choices you’re making in terms of these injections.”
