Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told Senators Sunday that officials expect terror threats to the homeland from Afghanistan to increase, Fox News reports.
Previously, Pentagon officials said in June that extremist groups could regenerate in Afghanistan within two years of the U.S. withdrawing forces, the Associated Press reports.
However, after the Taliban’s quick rise to power in Afghanistan, officials are expected to shorten their timeline as terror groups, including al Qaeda, may surge in the absence of America.
