Maxine Waters Says Trump Only Cares About ‘White Power Pep Rallies’

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Ca., took to Twitter last week to criticize President Trump’s coronavirus response and said he has little interest in COVID-19 deaths and more focused on going back to his “white power pep rallies.”

Waters, who once said Trump should be put in “solitary confinement” because impeachment is “not good enough,” has joined the chorus of Democrats looking to blame the president in an apparent effort to gain support as the November election approaches.

“Trump doesn’t care about the 80,000+ people who’ve died from #coronavirus! He only wants to open up the economy so he can go back to having his white power pep rallies! The death & economic devastation we are facing is b/c Trump failed to act early & called #COVID19 a HOAX!”

Despite both parties stressing that the global pandemic should not be politicized, both have fired shots at each other. Waters’ criticism is the stance that many Democrats have taken to criticize the Trump administration. Dr. Richard Bright, the former head of a Health and Human Services biodefense agency, has been making their case in front of Congress and most recently on “60 Minutes,” where he blamed the administration of being more concerned about the political fallout than ways to prevent the disease’s spread.

Trump has been a vocal critic of Blue State governors who he insists are dragging their feet in the country’s reopening in order to hurt him politically. Trump has also criticized these states of running up their debt for years and then using the coronavirus pandemic to get a federal government bailout.

Waters, the chair of the Financial Services Committee, said recently that her sister, Velma Moody, 86, died from the coronavirus, which has infected nearly 1.5 million Americans and killed about 90,000. At the time, she talked about the parties coming together for the good of the country.

“Many families have been touched, and so I’m hopeful that we can all get together Democrats and Republicans, and deal with this pandemic,” she said, according to CNN. But she has maintained a tough stance against Trump.

“Trump, when are you going to say a word of sympathy & condolences to the families & friends of the 50k coronavirus victims who’ve died in our country & even the others who’ve died around the world? Have you no empathy? Have you no compassion or decency?”
