A total of 47 members of Congress filed a federal court brief in support of Navy SEALs suing the Biden administration for refusing religious exemptions to the COVID vaccine mandate.

The lawmakers are supporting a lawsuit filed by First Liberty Institute on Nov. 9.

“Americans live in freedom because warriors like Navy SEALs fight on our behalf,” Kelly Shackelford, president and CEO of First Liberty Institute, said in a statement. “Now it’s our turn to fight for them. We are grateful to every member of Congress who has joined in the fight to defend our clients against military actions that violate federal law and their Constitutional rights.”

The members argue Biden’s Department of Defense is violating the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and the First Amendment with the vaccine mandate.

“No right is more precious than the right to religious liberty,” the members wrote in the brief. “That is why the very first clause of the very First Amendment states that ‘Congress shall make no law…prohibiting the free exercise’ of religion.”
