Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) stunned “60 Minutes” host Lesley Stahl by asserting that Democrats are the party of “pedophiles.”
After Stahl told the audience Greene is sometimes known for her “over the top” remarks, the host quoted Greene saying, “The Democrats are a party of pedophiles.”
Greene immediately doubled down on her previous claim about the Democrat party.
“I would definitely say so. They support grooming children,” Greene replied.
Stahl, seemingly frustrated that Greene would make such a claim, quickly rebuked the congresswoman.
“They are not pedophiles,” Stahl answered. “Why would you say that?”
Greene continued to condemn Democrats and even President Biden, doubling down and describing them as pedophiles again.
“Even Joe Biden, the president himself, supports children being sexualized and having transgender surgeries. Sexualizing children is what pedophiles do to children,” Greene remarked.
This response left the usually quick on her feet host in a state of shock. After a moment of silence, the only thing Stahl could say in response was, “wow,” followed by an eye roll.

Greene’s appearance on “60 minutes” sparked some controversy on the left. Many progressive commentators and outlets don’t seem to think CBS should have given a voice to someone with Greene’s conservative views.
MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan slammed Stahl for not sticking up for Biden and Democrats more after Greene called them pedophiles.
“Greene uses her prestigious national media 60 Minutes platform to double down on her crazy and dangerous assertion that Democrats are ‘pedophiles’ and, in response, Stahl can only say ‘wow’ and can’t you say that ‘without name calling,’” Hasan wrote on Twitter.

Further, CNN published an opinion piece Monday with a title that asks the question,”Why is ’60 Minutes’ amplifying the views of Marjorie Taylor Greene?”
Despite commonly being the subject of controversy, for a congresswoman in only her second term, Greene has gained a great deal of notoriety and power in the House of Representatives.
In addition to being an advisor to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Greene also serves on the Homeland Security Committee.
