California Gov. Gavin Newsom has named a black lesbian from Maryland to replace the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Laphonza Butler is the head of the powerful Emily’s List – a leftist political action committee. She is also a radical pro-abortionist.

“She will make history — becoming the first black lesbian to openly serve in the U.S. Senate,” Newsom said in said in a statement posted on Twitter.

“As we mourn the enormous loss of Sen. Feinstein, the very freedoms she fought for — reproductive freedom, equal protection, and safety from gun violence — have never been under greater assault,” he added. “Laphonza has spent her entire career fighting for women and girls and has been a fierce advocate for working people.”

Gov. Newsom had promised to appoint a black woman to the position and he delivered on that promise. Skin color and sex were the only criteria considered in Ms. Butler’s appointment.

However, the appointment has already created controversy because it turns out Butler lives in Maryland.

Newsweek reports that she has reportedly been living in Silver Springs, Maryland since 2021 and had listed her address on a campaign contribution just over 30 days ago.

Sacramento television station KCRA reported: “Newsom’s office confirms she moved to [the] D.C. area for EMILY’s list, but is a CA homeowner and will reregister to vote in California before being sworn in.”

According to the U.S. Census, only five percent of Californians are black. However, 15 percent of the state’s citizens are Asian American or Pacific Islander. So, why did Newsom ignore that demographic?

Governor Newsom’s decision should trouble the nation and especially the torch bearers of the Civil Rights movement.

On August 28, 1963, the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his now-famous “I Have a Dream Speech.” King said he dreamed of a day when his children would be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.

Unfortunately, in a nation controlled by progressive Democrats – that dream will never be realized.

On a side note, I’m surprised there were no qualified black lesbians who actually live in California.
