New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) announced Monday a mandate forcing private-sector employees and children ages 5 to 11 to get the COVID vaccine.
De Blasio called the move a “preemptive strike” and “first in the nation measure” against the Omicron variant which goes into effect immediately after Christmas on Dec. 27.
The lame-duck mayor made the announcement on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” adding other measures as well.
The vaccine passport program will also be required for children 5-11.
And it will also require not one, but two, doses of the vaccine.
‘We’re leading the way and taking bold steps to combat COVID,” Danielle Filson, the mayor’s press secretary, tweeted, writing out the new measures despite Omicron only being reported with mild cases.
