The Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade Friday in the landmark Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case.
Justice Samuel Alito wrote the opinion which moves the issue back to the states. The court voted 6-3 to uphold the Mississippi law that bans abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, and 5-4 to explicitly overturn Roe and the constitutional right. You can read here.
“The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives,” Alito wrote.
Justices Bryer, Sotomayor, and Kagan dissented, writing, “With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent.”
The case stems from a dispute over a Mississippi law that bans abortion after 15 weeks.

National radio host Todd Starnes celebrated the decision solidifying that abortion is not a constitutional right.

May God bless America as we rid our nation of the horrid scourge that was Roe v. Wade.— toddstarnes (@toddstarnes) June 24, 2022
Politico previously leaked a draft opinion last month that led to violence against pro-life centers across the country.
The investigation into who leaked the draft is still ongoing.
This is a developing story.
