Not all Hollywood-types are backing California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in the recall election. Activist and former actress Rose McGowan endorsed conservative radio personality Larry Elder for governor Sunday.
“Do I agree with him on every issue? No, but so what?” said McGowan about Elder at a weekend press conference. “He might not say the same things the way that you would, and might not articulate them in a way that we’re used to, but it doesn’t make him bad, it doesn’t make him wrong, and it does mean that he’s dedicated his life to thinking differently and wanting more.”
Based on that, McGowan believes Elder is “the better candidate” and “the better man.”
“Let’s bring on some hope,” said McGowan. “I believe in California. I believe it can be better.”
McGowan also took time in the press conference to claim that Newsom’s wife, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, tried to silence McGowan about Harvey Weinstein and his sexual assault allegations.
“Why? Why do you keep choosing that? Why do you keep electing that?” asked McGowan.
Elder is leading among the candidates to become the next governor of California if enough voters decide Newsom should be recalled.
“I am going to be uniting when I become governor,” said Elder. “I’m going to use my bully pulpit to unite us because we have far more in common than we have apart.”
Supporters of the recall of Newsom take issue with his COVID mandates on people, businesses, and places of worship. The website RecallGavin2020.com also points out that Newsom did not follow his own rules on masks and large gatherings when Newsom dined indoors at a posh restaurant known as French Laundry. Other stated reasons for recalling Newsom include his policies in favor of illegal immigrants, his failure to combat homelessness, and countless new gun and ammo laws.
