A prominent Democrat mayor of a sanctuary city is defending sending illegals to other places.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams told WABC’s “Sid & Friends” Thursday he has “sent more to Washington and Albany than we’ve gotten back.”
He blamed Republicans for not passing immigration reform and is asking for more help from other counties and the state, as well as the federal government to bail out the city.
He clarified the “sanctuary city” term Democrats embraced under the Trump administration.
“What it comes down to is that those who are here as asylum seekers, they are not here illegally,” Adams said. “They were paroled into the country by the Customs Border Patrol. They’re here legally. And that’s what people are mixing up. They’re mixing up those who are here illegally. That’s where the sanctuary city terminology comes from. That has nothing to do with the migrants and asylum seekers.”
In January, Adams said there was no more “room” for illegals in the five boroughs, and just last month he said the Biden administration’s border crisis has “destroyed” the Big Apple.
The far-Left mayor said the influx of illegals has cost his city upwards of $4.3 billion, housing more than 56,000 illegals in over 100 taxpayer-funded shelters.
“The national government has turned its back on New York City,” Adams said. “Every service in this city is going to be impacted by the asylum seeker crisis.”
