Investigative journalist Sara Carter said she agrees with President Trump that there was an attempted coup against the new president by members of the Deep State.
“This was an attempted overthrow of the United States government,” the president told Sean Hannity. “This was a coup.”
“This was a coup,” Carter said on Starnes Country. “Now, a coup does not have to be bloody. A coup does not have to be led by the military. A coup can also be a soft coup or a silent coup – where there is a disinformation campaign that’s run to target a particular individual.”
Watch the entire interview with Carter by clicking here. The news is especially troubling amid reports the FBI tried to infiltrate the Trump White House – through the vice president’s office.
“The fact that the FBI would work to build sources inside the White House to basically spy on an administration is absolutely incredible,” Carter said on my nationally syndicated radio show.
She said she was talking with veteran intelligence sources who say they have never seen anything quite like this.
“It is absolutely something that must be investigated,” Carter said.
Vice President Mike Pence told Axios he was “deeply offended to learn that two disgraced FBI agents considered infiltrating our transition team by sending a counter intelligence agent to one of my first intelligence briefings.”
“This is an outrage and only underscores why we need to ge to the bottom of how this investigation started in the first place,” Pence told Axios in a statement.
Carter stressed that rank and file FBI agents and staffers are not involved in the scandal.
“There are amazing people working in our agencies,” she said. “This is about a small group of people within these agencies that exceeded their power in order to target somebody that they did not want in office.”
And the conspirators were apparently so convinced that Hillary Clinton was going to be president they didn’t bother to cover their tracks.
“They were very sloppy and I think the reason they were sloppy … (was because) they absolutely believed that Hillary Clinton would win the election,” Carter said.
