Senate Authorizes Army of 87,000 New IRS Agents; GOP Fears Political Payback

Vice President Kamala Harris broke a tie vote in the U.S. Senate to pass a massive spending bill that is expected to raise gas and oil prices.

The social spending bill includes $400 billion in spending and more than $700 billion in taxes.

It also authorizes the Internal Revenue Service to hire 87,000 new agents — in effect doubling the size of the IRS.

Will the Republicans win in a landslide in November?

“Those IRS agents are designed to come after you, they are not designed to come after the billionaires and the big corporations,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said on Fox News. “They are designed to come after small businesses and working families across this country.”

Cruz called the legislation a “massive power grab.”

“The Democrats are making the IRS bigger than the Pentagon, plus the Department of State, plus the FBI, plus the Border Patrol combined – the IRS is going to be bigger,” Cruz warned.

Senate Republicans stood united against the jaw-dropping spending bill.

“87,000 new IRS agents, higher taxes, and a massive green energy slush fund,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) said. “Anyone who says this bill reduces inflation is lying.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy warned Americans that the IRS is about to declare war on hard-working taxpayers.

“A key provision in Democrats’ new spending scam is their plan to hire an army of 87,000 new IRS agents to audit American families and spy on their bank accounts, McCarthy (R-CA) said. “This is the same IRS that was caught targeting conservatives last time Biden was in the White House.”

President Biden saluted Senate Democrats for what will become a massive tax increase on the American people.

Today, Senate Democrats sided with American families over special interests, voting to lower the cost of prescription drugs, health insurance, and everyday energy costs and reduce the deficit, while making the wealthiest corporations finally pay their fair share.  I ran for President promising to make government work for working families again, and that is what this bill does — period.

This bill caps seniors’ out of pocket spending for prescription drugs at $2000 per year – no matter what their drug bills would otherwise be, seniors will not have to spend more than $2000.  In addition, 13 million Americans, covered under the Affordable Care Act, will see their health insurance premiums reduced by $800.

This bill tackles inflation by lowering the deficit and lowering costs for regular families.

This bill also makes the largest investment ever in combatting the existential crisis of climate change.  It addresses the climate crisis and strengthens our energy security, creating jobs manufacturing solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicles in America with American workers.  It lowers families’ energy costs by hundreds of dollars each year.

Finally, it pays for all this by establishing a minimum corporate tax so that our richest corporations start to pay their fair share.  It does not raise taxes on those making under $400,000 a year – not one cent.

I want to thank Leader Schumer and every member of the Senate Democratic caucus for supporting this bill.  It required many compromises.  Doing important things almost always does.

The House should pass this as soon as possible and I look forward to signing it into law.

White House

The legislation nows goes to the House where Democrats have a strong majority.
