The Washington Post reports House Speaker Mike Johnson indicated behind closed doors “that there is insufficient evidence at the moment to initiate formal impeachment proceedings.”
Six years ago Republicans told us they had the evidence against a number of Democrats for all sorts of crimes. They held jaw-dropping hearings and gave breathless reports on talk radio and cable television.
The Republicans told us Democrats would go to jail. Six years later — no Democrats are in jail.
If the Washington Post reporting is accurate then the past two years have been nothing but a waste of time and taxpayer money. The Republicans can throw a great hearing, but when it comes time to actually doing something, they always fail to deliver.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Attorney General Merrick Garland and President Biden are still on the job while the Do-Nothing Republicans dither away yet another opportunity.
Case in point was last night.
Eight Republicans joined Democrats to stop Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s effort to impeach Secretary Mayorkas. Eight Republicans literally sided with those who want to allow illegal aliens to breach our borders.
Republicans did that, America.
And now we have a new Speaker – whose first order of business is to work out a deal to keep spending money the government does not have.
“For now, I am pleased that Speaker Johnson seems to be moving in our direction by advancing a CR that does not include the highly partisan cuts that Democrats have warned against,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said.
During his tenure as a congressman, Speaker Johnson was a regular on my national radio show. But since he’s been elevated to the speakership, his office has gone radio silent. That’s a problem.
The Speaker needs to hear from “We the People,” not adoring sycophants in the media who refuse to ask the tough questions.
So, here’s some friendly advice to Speaker Johnson:
- The Continuing Resolution must have meaningful spending cuts.
- Either impeach or stop squandering the taxpayer’s money with investigations that go nowhere.
- Release the J6 tapes.
The Republicans do not want McCarthy 2.0. They want a Speaker of the House who will be a man of his word.
And the voters will not be fooled again.
