The State Department issued its first gender “X” passport for “non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming persons,” the department announced Wednesday.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the move away from M (male) or F (female) to the addition of the “X” marker in June for U.S. passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBAs).
“The Department also continues to work closely with other U.S. government agencies to ensure as smooth a travel experience as possible for all passport holders, regardless of their gender identity,” Ned Price, State spokesperson, said in a statement.
