The Supreme Court revealed Thursday that the months-long investigation into the unprecedented leaking of the draft that overturned Roe v. Wade failed to identify the culprit.
The leaked decision was published by Politico in May 2022, which led to violence against pro-life pregnancy centers, churches, and threats against conservative justices. Chief Justice John Roberts called it an “egregious breach of trust” at the time.
“Despite these efforts, investigators have been unable to determine at this time, using a preponderance of the evidence standard, the identity of the person(s) who disclosed the draft majority opinion,” the court said in a report.
The court also added it cannot identify “how the draft opinion was provided to Politico.”
