For the first time in decades – the Teamsters Union has declined to endorse a presidential candidate. And in doing so – they are offering a de facto endorsement of President Trump. Watch the story above.
Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien says neither candidate was able to make serious commitments to the union to ensure the interests of working people are always put before big business.
The union’s decision comes two days after senior leaders met with Harris to consider an endorsement.
The teamsters represent 1.3 million truck drivers, freight workers and other blue collar workers.
Earlier Wednesday – the Teamsters released a survey conducted by members — and the rank and file say they want Donald Trump.
60 percent of members back Trump only 34 percent backed Kamala Harris. That’s according to an electronic members-old poll.
So why is this a de facto endorsement of Trump?
Well, the Teamsters have endorsed Democrats for decades — so not backing Harris is a political earthquake for Democrats.
The Trump campaign responded to the news by releasing this statement:
“While the Teamsters Executive Board is making no formal endorsement, the hardworking members of the Teamsters have been loud and clear— they want President Trump back in the White House!” said campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt in a statement. “These hardworking men and women are the backbone of America and President Trump will strongly stand up for them when he’s back in the White House.”
