An ex-Bush strategist, who is running as a Democrat for lieutenant governor in Texas, said Sunday he had a revelation Jesus would be labeled “woke” in today’s culture.
Matthew Dowd hopes to replace Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, whom he accused of focusing too much on “culture war” issues to divide Texas. But his latest tweet shows he might have an issue with that as well.
“As I sat in church today I was thinking that if Jesus were here today he would be accused of being woke,” Dowd tweeted. “How about we just say it is human decency to treat all with respect and dignity and that it is constitutional to say all men and women are equal.”
After Fox News published a story on the tweet, the former ABC News political anaylist thanked them and received support online.
“Keep being Jesus with skin on, Matthew,” one person tweeted.
“I think you picked up supporters with this one,” another person said.
He tweeted earlier about attending church.
“Lovely service at church today at Chapel in the Hills in Wimberley,” he wrote in an earlier tweet. “‘Let your joy be in your journey, not in some distant goal.’ Let us each find joy in meaning and service with compassion and respect of others. It is there that happiness resides.”
Dowd was the chief strategist for George W. Bush’s 2004 reelection campaign before splitting with the former president.
