Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is sending a message to President Biden on mandatory COVID vaccinations for workers: Don’t mess with the Lone Star State.
Abbott issued an executive order, superseding any conflicting laws, which bans “any entity” from enforcing a mandate on anyone in Texas “who objects to such vaccination for any reason of personal conscience.”
He lists reasons such as “religious belief, or for medical reasons, including prior recovery from COVID-19.”
“The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and our best defense against the virus, but should remain voluntary and never forced,” Abbott said Monday.
In stark contrast to Biden’s order, the Republican governor encouraged the state legislature to codify the order into law.
