Is Kamala Harris wrong on abortion and the church?

“As extremists work to take away the freedom of women to make decisions about their own bodies, faith leaders are taking a stand, knowing one does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held religious beliefs to agree that a woman should have the ability to make decisions about her own body and not have her government tell her what to do, and she will choose, in consultation with her pastor or her priest, or a doctor and her loved ones, but the government should not be making that decision,” Harris said to applause.

The Super Bowl-winning head coach responded on Twitter to the video posted by “Woke Preacher Clips.”

“Yes-forget about the government. Just have women let their God tell them what to do. Ask God and listen to His voice. By the way, He’s already told us,” Dungy wrote.

One user asked, “Which is what, Coach?”

Dungy responded, “Respect life. ‘Thou shalt not kill.’ Exodus 20:13. Babies in the womb are life. ‘I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.’ Jeremiah 1:5 NLT”

Another user told him, “The point is the Lord wants you to choose to follow not to be forced. Love should guide us. True love is not forced but chosen.”

The father of 11 replied, “When He says ‘thou shalt not kill’ is that a suggestion that we should follow if we feel like but disregard if we don’t like the suggestion?”

Another man said, “He also tells us to mind our own business … But people don’t wanna do that either.”

Dungy said, “Where did He say that?” and the person responded with 1 Thessalonians 4:11, “and to aspire to live quietly m, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you.”

“So you take that to mean to never say anything no matter what you see going on? If a child is being abused, or an elderly person is being brutalized just be quiet and ignore it because it’s none of our business?” Dungy asked.

Dungy said he had a “problem” with Harris’s comments being made in a “church environment.”

“You want to talk about government and constitution-no problem. But not in church!” he said.

One user said he was unfollowing Dungy: “Please leave your religion out of my government, as our constitution states.”

Dungy added, “Not talking about government. It was a government official-the Vice President in fact—who was giving a message to the National Baptist Convention. My comment was about the Christian Church. My first statement was ‘Leave the government out of it!'”
