Trump Rips Tlaib’s “Horrible & Insensitive” Comments About Israel

President Donald Trump blasted comments made by Democratic Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib over the weekend that the Holocaust gave her “a calming feeling.”

In a tweet Monday morning, the president called Tlaib’s statement “horrible and highly insensitive” and that the Muslim congresswoman “obviously has tremendous hate of Israel and the Jewish people.”

The president noted that if he had made similar comments, the response would have been much different.

“Can you imagine what would happen if I ever said what she said, and says?” he wrote on Twitter.

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) told the Todd Starnes Radio Show that his mind was blown “that there isn’t more clash, especially amongst the Democratic Party” regarding Tlaib’s comments as well as comments made by Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, another Muslim congresswoman who has made multiple anti-Semitic statements since taking office.

Zeldin noted that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had invited virulently anti-Semitic imam Omar Suleiman to deliver the opening prayer on the House floor last week.

Suleiman’s history of anti-Semitism includes support of the Muslim Brotherhood, calling the state of Israel “a terrorist regime,” as well as calling for a third Intifada or Palestinian uprising.

“If you are going to have an imam come and do an opening prayer you should be looking for one who hasn’t compared Israel to the Nazis,” the New York congressman said. “I don’t know if Speaker Pelosi’s office failed to vet this.”

As for Tlaib and Ilhan Omar’s comments, Zeldin detailed to  Starnes how Speaker Pelosi had minimized their comments in the past by saying that as “new members” they didn’t understand the gravity of their comments and hadn’t intended on offending anyone.

But Zeldin wasn’t having it.

“I actually give these members more credit than Speaker Pelosi does,” he said. “I believe that they know exactly what they’re saying and doing.”

In addition to her “calming feeling” comments on the Holocaust, Zeldin said Tlaib openly endorsed the idea of a one-state solution to the Israeli-Palestine conflict, “that would remove the Jews from power in their own country and Israel.”

“I would encourage them to speak out today this week bringing up the leadership,” Zeldin said, because if you don’t stand up to it, if you don’t identify and crush this rhetoric, these policies we’re hearing about, it’s only going to grow to be more and more of a headache for them politically. But more importantly, it becomes more and more of a problem for our country as you see anti-Semitism continue to rise.”

Marc Lotter, director of strategic communications for the Trump 2020 campaign, also weighed in during the second hour of the Todd Starnes Show, noting, “Here you have a congresswoman in the United States of America and some of her allies who have openly attacked Israel [and] said horribly anti-Semitic things.”

“The Democrat Party, under the leadership of this radical group, can’t even condemn anti-Semitism,” he continued. “It just shows you this problem that they’ve got in the Democrat Party that they can’t even police their own. Yet, as the president points out, every time he opens his mouth someone is saying what he actually meant or psycho-analyzing it.”
