Dr. First Lady Jill Biden massacred a popular phrase in Spanish before what appeared to be a small audience of farmworkers.
Biden appeared alongside California Gov. Gavin Newsom in Delano on the birthday of activist César Chávez.
Chavez was known as a staunch opponent of illegal immigration.
But it was the first lady’s pronunciation of “¡Sí Se Puede!” ‒ which translates to “Yes we can” in Spanish ‒ that drew criticism on Twitter.
As reported by the Fresno Bee:
“During her appearance Biden mispronounced the words “si se puede” incorrectly on the third occasion she mentioned the phrase — pronouncing it “si se pwad-way” when she was closing out her speech.”
By and large the media gave Dr. Mrs. Biden a pass, but could you imagine the media coverage if Melania Trump had made a similar mistake?
