Former Sen. Jeff Flake noted that if the vote on impeachment were private “there would be at least 35” Republican votes to convict.
That seems highly unlikely — but it’s impossible to predict if the Establishment Republicans would stand with President Trump.
It only takes a simple majority to decide procedural issues on a vote, Politico reports.
“A secret impeachment ballot might sound crazy, but it’s actually quite possible. In fact, it would take only three senators to allow for that possibility,” the website reported.
In other words — anything goes.
Former GOP senator @JeffFlake at #TribFest19 – “I heard someone say if there were a private vote [on impeachment in the Senate] there would be 30 Republican votes. That’s not true. There would be at least 35.”
